- Tuesday 3rd Jan. Went to Tonkotsu solo, read ~250 pages of Breasts and Eggs. Thought a lot about family and kids.
- Monday 9th Jan. Finished The Dangers of Smoking in Bed - it was interesting, but didn’t give me as much of a new perspective as I’d hoped for. Started Half of a Yellow Sun, which seems great even after only a couple of chapters.
- Tuesday 17th Jan. Stayed in and made a lot of progress on Half of a Yellow Sun, which I’m finding very heavy but equally as compelling. I felt surprisingly low - perhaps in part from the book - I think this was a sign that the slack night was particularly warranted.
- Friday 26th Jan. Went to Tonkotsu solo again, finished Half of a Yellow Sun and started Ru. Very stressed from work, but glad to have made more progress reading.
- Monday 30th Jan. Stayed in and played cards with Jess, felt very relaxed and had a lot of fun.
- Tuesday 7th Feb. Stayed in and read a decent chunk of Crime and Punishment. I felt very agitated - it was hard to not work on various things on my to-do list. Also struggled not to snack too much post-dinner, thought about food a lot.
- Tuesday 14th Feb. Stayed in and made high-effort lasagne for Valentine’s Day with Jess. Still felt a little bit stressed from work/hackathon at the weekend, but generally better than the previous week.
- Tuesday 21st Feb. Stayed in and made pancakes with Jess - this was a lot of fun! I only started slacking (ie having all technology turned off) quite late though ~19:30. I would like to be better about this, as I can feel it slipping already. In future I need to plan ahead for slack nights and be ready to turn my phone/computer off at closer to 18:00.
- Tuesday 28th Feb. Stayed in and cooked for Jess, who was sick. It was nice to have enough slack in my week to be able to look after her without me having to rearrange/cancel anything. Made some more progress on Crime and Punishment, which I’m finding somewhat overrated.
- Mon 6th Mar. Broke my rules for slack nights somewhat and watched half a movie with Jess. I enjoyed the movie, and it made her happy to watch it together, so I feel fine about it.
- Wednesday 15th Mar. Stayed in and finished The Memory Police, which was a great read, albeit a sad one. I felt very calm and peaceful, which is the feeling I have been hoping to cultivate by having these evenings.
- Wednesday 22nd Mar. Again broke my own rules, and played Elden Ring for the evening. I was feeling very stressed and reasoned it was worth using this time to do something that would be maximally destressing even if that meant using technology. Ex post I feel good about this decision.
- Monday 27th Mar.
